Advice For New and Junior Data Scientists

這篇提出了一些給新手資料科學家的建議，有些我覺得特別受用，嘗試列出幾點來分享：

1. If you get on someone’s critical path, then you force them to tie your success to theirs, which will motivate them to lift you up as hard as they can.

他說，如果你的關鍵路徑正好是在某人(你的導師或主管)的關鍵路徑上，就會迫使他們把你的成功跟他們的成功綁在一起，所以他們也會盡可能把你提升上去，因為你想做的也正是他們想做的。你在找下一份工作或project的時候，依循這個原則，這樣會讓你在這條路上累積更多"幸運"。

2. Instead of thinking about which programming language to learn, think about which language offers you the right set of Domain Specific Languages (DSL) that fit your problems.

不要糾結在用什麼語言寫比較好，而是想你現在的問題適合用哪種工具來解決？這樣答案就很明顯了。

3. When you learn something valuable, share it with others. You don’t always have to create new software, explaining how existing tools work can also be super valuable.

當你學了新東西(讀了新paper或使用新工具)，試著把你所學的跟其他人分享。

4. Pay attention to your inner dissatisfaction when working on a project. These are clues to how you can improve and scale your project to the next level.

當你在做project時，注意你內在的不滿足(這個tool哪裡寫得不好、這個做法怎樣改進可以更好)，這些線索可以幫助你的project 提升到另一個層次。

5. You must work on important problems.....The importance of problem, to a great extent, depends on if you got a way of attacking the problem.....The right problem at the right time at the right way counts, and nothing else counts.

如果你在做的事情一點也不重要，那你幹嘛做？你應該要下功夫在重要的問題上，而問題的重要性常常取決於你是否有解決問題的方法。在對的時間用對的方法解決對的問題，才是最重要的。

6. What’s a problem that is important to you that is on your critical path?

什麼問題是對你很重要又在你的關鍵路徑上的？想清楚或許就能找到未來方向的答案。
